Haiti : the Horrors of a 7.0 Earthquake

Haiti had a huge earthquake and it happened directly upon a split : a fault line between
two regions of the earth. No one could go in or out: and many relief airplanes have been turned away. Millions of people have been suffering in the poorest country of the world.
Historically it has been a very corrupt place for politicians.
The Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Unicef and Doctors without Borders have been vying for a landing as well as many European health organisations and the U.N. Health organisation.

My teen , along with others, have tried to make plans to go aid these people.
He was upset to learn that he needed more training ...

we are still worried for these people.
There are at least 20,000 people awaiting burial (Sunday) and more probably now...
The U.S. Air Force is in charge of the airport and we have sent many many Marines...
How do you feel?Leave comments for Haitians.
I hope the best for all of them and I send my condolences to those who have lost their families and homes and /or are injured in this tragedy.

It is tragic, and it takes time to build infrastucture from nothing. Hope the total deaths stay under 200,000.

The Haitian people have such poverty that it makes the earthquake even more horrendous.
My thoughts and prayers are with them.

It is an awful thing. Mike and I donated through DEC appeal, we have done what we can.

This made my heart sink. It's almost criminal that some relief efforts have been turned away, and these people are dying alone, thinking that no one wants to help them.

So far everyone I know with loved ones there is fine. I agree with Buck; it is going to take time to build from nothing. The Haitian people are people of faith and there are many faith-based groups there already. I also believe it that it is going to take those who are skilled in all areas to help rebuild and restore thier lives. As Mr. Bush said, "we need you to send cash." And and prayers.

Hi Nat- This was a tragedy. This has been such a poor country for so long. I'm glad people are so generous as they always are when things like this happen, but I fear that once the donations start slowing down, the people will be just as poor, and still without a way to help themselves.
When things like this happen, I am glad to see the charitable hearts of folks, but what is really needed in this kind of country is ways to help them in the long run too. There are too many people getting in the way, with all the press and such, that the people are not getting the help they need.
I wish there was a way to send things like seeds, fruit tree saplings and stuff like that, along with tools and other things which will help these folks for long after the news reporters leave. I pray that these folks will get what they need as well as a way to learn to do for themselves.
Thanks Nat
